Fight Overview
Niko Samsonidse, the Berlin-based BJJ black belt who doctors once said would never compete again, gets his third shot at the OKTAGON lightweight title picture against Denis Frimpong, a rising German-Ghanaian finisher ranked inside the top ten at 155. Samsonidse has gone 12-4 while showcasing elite submission chaining and dangerous striking, and Frimpong arrives on a run of back-to-back finishes. This is a matchup of two of Europe's most entertaining lightweights, with the winner forcing themselves into the title conversation.
Keys to Victory
Niko Samsonidse
- Pull guard or force early clinch ties to bring the fight to the mat where his BJJ black belt is the decisive edge.
- Use deceptive striking to set up takedowns, landing crisp combinations that force Frimpong into reactive, sloppy positions.
- Manage his pace intelligently across rounds to preserve his submission threat and avoid getting caught by Frimpong's knockout power.
Denis Frimpong
- Keep the fight standing and maintain movement to prevent Samsonidse from initiating his dangerous grappling transitions.
- Target the body early to slow Samsonidse's explosive scrambling ability and create openings for his trademark right-hand power.
- Explode with short punching combinations in the clinch to punish Samsonidse for initiating ties and deter takedown entries.
