Fight Overview
Defending PFL Middleweight Champion Costello 'The Spaniard' van Steenis makes his first title defense in a highly anticipated rematch against PFL Tournament winner Fabian Edwards. Van Steenis is coming off a massive upset where he choked out the formerly undefeated Johnny Eblen to capture the gold, while Edwards recently defeated Dalton Rosta to claim the tournament crown. With bad blood remaining from their 2020 Bellator clash—which van Steenis won by split decision—this title fight promises fireworks.
Keys to Victory
Costello van Steenis
- Apply constant forward pressure to neutralize Edwards's southpaw kickboxing and distance management
- Mix heavy striking combinations with opportunistic level changes to keep Edwards guessing
- Exploit grappling exchanges to hunt for high-level submissions, just as he did against Eblen
Fabian Edwards
- Utilize lateral movement and stiff jabs to maintain range and fight on the outside
- Employ elite takedown defense to keep the bout strictly in the striking realm
- Punish van Steenis's aggressive entries with step-in knees and heavy counter left hands
