José Luiz submitted Louie Sutherland with a neck crank at 3:10 of round one in a heavyweight bout at UFC Fight Night: Gamrot vs. Salkilld on August 8, 2026. Making his Octagon debut, Luiz established grappling control in the opening minutes and worked into the neck crank for the finish — a rarely seen submission hold at heavyweight. Sutherland, who had prior UFC experience, was unable to escape the hold before the referee stopped the contest. The first-round stoppage sent Luiz to the win column immediately in his promotional debut.
Pregled borbe
Louie "Vanilla Gorilla" Sutherland arrives on genuine momentum after a unanimous decision victory over Tai Tuivasa in May 2026 — a statement win for the English heavyweight that put the division on notice. He faces Brazilian heavyweight José Luiz in a fight where Sutherland will look to build on that breakthrough while Luiz seeks to break into the heavyweight rankings with an upset.
Ključevi pobjede
Louie Sutherland
- Carry the confidence from his Tuivasa win into this fight and use his grappling base to grind out another decision with active wrestling and top control.
- Avoid the early knockout danger that heavyweight brawlers always carry and establish his jab-and-wrestle game before opening up on the feet.
- Trust his conditioning — he just proved he can go the full distance against a power puncher and use that same blueprint against Luiz.
José Luiz
- Look for an early finish before Sutherland can establish the wrestling-heavy game plan that neutralized Tuivasa over three rounds.
- Use his Brazilian striking and physical strength to keep the fight standing and capitalize on any hesitation from Sutherland in the clinch.
- Prepare for Sutherland's takedown pressure and have active defensive wrestling ready to keep the fight at range where his power is most relevant.
