PFL Rankings Shake-Up After PFL Washington DC: Jean vs. Musaev
PFL Washington DC ran July 25 at CareFirst Arena. The card's main event changed two days before showtime when Shamil Musaev withdrew due to complications during his weight cut. Ernesto Rodriguez stepped in as a last-minute replacement. Thad Jean stopped Rodriguez in round three at 2:44 to claim the vacant PFL welterweight title. In the co-main event, Rafael Xavier stopped Tyson Pedro in round one at 4:59. Rasul Magomedov took a unanimous decision over Sullivan Cauley on the main card.
The rankings update that followed was among the most comprehensive PFL has published in a single week. Twenty-nine positions changed. Thirty fighters entered the rankings for the first time. Lightweight: Shabliy Takes the Lead, Davis Drops
The biggest single move in this update belongs to Alexandr Shabliy. He jumps three positions in PFL lightweight — from fourth to first — and steps in as the No. 1 contender behind champion Usman Nurmagomedov. It is the largest positional gain in this week's update and it lands at the expense of Alfie Davis, who drops from first to fourth.
Davis came in as the ranked No. 1 contender and leaves this update three spots lower. The shift reflects the panel's assessment that Shabliy's case for a title shot is stronger than Davis's at this point. Gadzhi Rabadanov, who also held a top-two position, drops from first to second — the lightweight top-two reshuffled completely, with Shabliy installed at the front.
Bantamweight: McKee Overtakes Pettis
Mitchell McKee moves from second to first in PFL bantamweight, overtaking Sergio Pettis who drops two positions to third. McKee is 10-0 overall — his unbeaten record has been the consistent argument for moving him ahead, and the panel acted on it.
Pettis at third still represents a legitimate contender in the PFL bantamweight division. He has competed at the top of this weight class for years and his resume carries weight. But his time at the top of the PFL bantamweight contender board is over for now, with McKee firmly installed at first.
Jean Wins the Welterweight Title
Thad Jean's third-round stoppage of Rodriguez was the event's defining result. Jean was the top-ranked welterweight contender entering Washington DC. He took a knockdown in round two from Rodriguez, came back in round three, and finished the fight cleanly. Surviving a knockdown and still getting the finish is the kind of performance that validates a title run.
The PFL welterweight title was vacant entering Washington DC. Jean now holds it. The contender rankings will adjust once the champion entry is fully processed in the system — Jean's current position in the welterweight contender standings is a temporary artifact of the update timing.
New Entries: PFL Goes Global
Thirty fighters entering the rankings in a single week is exceptional. The most significant additions reshape multiple divisions immediately.
Antônio Carlos Júnior enters PFL light heavyweight at No. 1. ACJ brings substantial experience from the top of the UFC's 205-pound division. His arrival at the head of PFL's light heavyweight contender board changes the calculus in a division where Corey Anderson holds the title.
Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov enters at No. 2 in light heavyweight, directly behind ACJ. Yagshimuradov has competed at the highest international levels and his entry alongside ACJ makes PFL's 205-pound contender list one of the deepest it has been.
Johnny Eblen enters at No. 1 in middleweight. A former champion with an elite submission game, Eblen at the top of the PFL middleweight contender board sets him as the division's next challenger to Costello van Steenis.
Timur Khizriev enters at No. 1 in featherweight, taking over the top contender spot in a division that now has Khizriev, A.J. McKee (up from third to second), and Jesus Pinedo in the top three.
Rasul Magomedov enters light heavyweight at No. 7 following his unanimous decision win at Washington DC. Rafael Xavier enters at No. 10 following his first-round TKO of Tyson Pedro in the co-main event. Both entries are direct results from the Washington DC card.

Washington DC delivered a title change, a major lightweight contender reshuffle, and a bantamweight switch at the top.
